Obesity and Bariatric Surgery

Obesity is a growing epidemic in the US, with more than one-third of adults characterized as obese. There is a growing interest in bariatric surgery as treatment for obesity, in fact about 1.4 million bariatric procedures have been done in the last 10 years. This illustrated lecture explores the problems associated with obesity as well as the different bariatric surgical techniques available. It demonstrates the associated risks, benefits, and complication rates in relation to patient compliance in order to understand bariatric surgery in the medical malpractice arena.
